Many persons have been feared dead as Commercial Drivers are currently disrupting socio- economic activities in Akure, Ondo State.

It was gathered that the crisis involved factions of the Drivers Union Of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW ).

” The drivers armed with dangerous weapons, are currently attacking one another and their personal vehicles as traders and commuters scampered for safety” a resident said.

Some of the people were  also said to have sustained injury.

The clash wish is still on going started around 8am on Tuesday.

The Ondo State Government had last Monday suspended the activities of the Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria and NURTW.

The Government through the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties, Dr Doyin Odebowale said the suspension was to allow both Union to meet and settle their differences to prevent clashes between them.

He pointed out that it was greed that was causing the fight as well as the money sharing formula between the two transport unions.

According to him the tickets printed by the Ondo State Internal Revenue Services would be sold to commercial drivers for the sum of three hundred Naira  (#300).

He warned that anybody caught selling any other ticket will be arrested and prosecuted.

Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has assured Nigerians that the 2023 election would be conducted better than all previous ones in terms of preparations and readiness.

The INEC boss who gave the assurance at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), yesterday, in Abuja, said the commission was committed to deepening the culture of planning for election.

” As we continue to plan for the next general election, the RECs have been directed to compile and submit an inventory of all election materials to determine shortfalls and take early steps to ensure their adequacy and availability”

” Only a few States are still outstanding. I am reminding the states that are yet to make their submissions to do so by the end of this week. This will enable us to address some of the logistics issues that have become a recurring decimal in the conduct of election in the past. The 2023 general election must be different from all previous elections in terms of our preparations and readiness” he stated.

The INEC boss commended the RECs and staff of the Commission ” for ensuring that the two elections conducted this year met the standard for credible exerciser”

He urged them to do better in the forthcoming Ekiti East State Constituency 1 bye- election and Aba North / Aba South Federal Constituency bye – elections in Abia State.

Gunmen on Monday, killed at least four famers in Konkobado Village, Idiyan axis, a border village located between Ibarapa North and Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State.

It was  gathered that the gunmen on motor cycles stormed the village before sunrise on Monday and shot the famers who were asleep on their farmland. The gunmen also hacked their victims before fleeing the village.

A resident of the village, Oguniyi Joel, said the remains of the victims have been taking away by the men of the Nigerian Police Force in Iwajowa.

” They came over night on about 10 motorbikes shot the four famers, hacked them and left. One of those killed is Sunday Okanlawon, a close relation. No one knows their identities whether they were headsmen or not but the bodies of the farmers have been taking away by the police” he said.

Also the Public Relation Officer of Igangan Development Advocate in Ibarapaland, Oguntowo Abideen, confirmed the incident.

Monday’s incident occurred barely a day after the men of Oodua people Congress and other vigilante groups arrested and handed over notorious Fulani warlord Iskilu Wakili to the Police.
