Two men and four women (including two children) were feared dead, yesterday, in an auto accident at Falokun settlement along Offa/Ajase/Ippo road in Kwara State.
The accident, caused by speed violation and wrong overtaking, reportedly happened about 2.00p.m. Two injured persons were said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
ALSO, former Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of Kaduna State, Rabo Barde, has died at the age of 72 years, while recovering from an ailment, according to the family.
Major Livinus Sambo (rtd), who announced the passing, on behalf of the family, in Kaduna, yesterday, stated: “The deceased died peacefully in his bed while recovering from an ailment on January 03, 2022.”
Five children and four grandchildren survived Barde, a former legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
KWARA State Police Command has dispelled a report that the state has become haven for bandits.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tuesday Assayomo, said in Ilorin, yesterday, that the report was misleading and sensational, warning against such in future.
He told the command’s spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi that the report smacked of professionalism, thus could throw many innocent citizens in the state off balance.
GOVERNOR Babagana Zulum of Borno State has urged United Nations (UN) agencies and development partners to allow the state lead in the humanitarian intervention and assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
According to him, the over 1.7 million IDPs will not be allowed to continue depending on handouts.
WORRIED by insecurity in the Northern part of the country, Northern leaders have resolved to convene a meeting in Kaduna, tomorrow, with various groups in the North.
The meeting, scheduled to hold at Arewa House in Kaduna and tagged ‘Meeting of Northern Leaders of Thought’ is expected to bring together the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and other northern groups.
In a statement issued, yesterday, in Abuja, the Secretary, Organising Committee, Abdullahi Toro, noted that the date of the meeting coincided with the day Sir Ahmadu Bello was killed by the military.
