Commissioner Emphasizes Need for Hand Washing

The Edo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. Moses Agboku has said that the war against diseases cannot be won without proper hand washing with soap.
He stated this on the occasion of the 2021 Global Hand Washing Day Celebration held in Benin City.
The World Health Organization and UNICEF had set aside October 15 of every year as Global Hand washing Day.
This global advocacy day was created to increase awareness on the importance of hand washing as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and its outbreak respectively.
This year’s Global Hand washing Day Celebration was organized by Edo State Small, Town and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (Edo State STRAWASSA), an agency of the state Ministry of Water Resources.
It has as its theme theme, “Our Future is at hand, Let’s us Move Forward together.”
This advocacy campaign was carried out in various primary and secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of state, with demonstration on hand washing, using the eight techniques of Hand washing.
Furthermore, the Commissioner emphasized that the future state of hygiene is in people’s hand and hand washing with soap would help in curbing disease, like diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid fever and pneumonia outbreak and spread of diseases in our state.
He said it is also a key way to preventing COVID-19 transmission.
He enjoined the pupils and students to be a good ambassadors of the global advocacy campaign across the State.
