Orphan wanted for Arson in Benin City

An orphan, Harrison Unity has been declared wanted by the Police in Edo State for burning down block of stores and buildings in Benin City which destroyed properties worth several millions of naira.

It was gathered that Unity who worked late in the tailoring store that evening  on February 19th 2016 was using a candle light to see, but he apparently later forgot to turn off the candle before leaving the store.

According to reliable sources, “Unity, one of the children from a family of six had lost his father while he was young and he was living with one of his aunty when the incident happened at Ekenwan Road.

He had put on a candle which he used to work that evening in the store but forgot to turn it off before leaving and it eventually burnt the store and escalated to other buildings.”

 An eye witness disclosed that there were three young men, including Unity who were working in the tailoring store late that evening and since the incident occurred their where about is unknown.

A huge blaze broke out from the stores and buildings as it sent the orange flames and a thick black column of smoke into the sky which attracted sympathizers who tried to put the fire off but to no avail.

“All efforts by nearby neighbors to immediately put out the fire proved abortive and unfortunately, the blocks of stores and some buildings close by were engulfed in the inferno which lasted more than three hours. But thank God no life was reported lost,” the source added.

A Police source disclosed that owners of the buildings that were razed down, including the owner of the tailoring store  made statements to the police indicting the three young men who were in the store late that evening, particularly,  Unity who was alleged to have put on the candle that bunt the store and buildings.

Attempts made to locate any family members by the police and the man who employed Unity was not successful and it was discovered that there are no traces of anyone of them in Benin City and the only known relation that he was staying with, an aunty could not be located either.
