Edo Government has disclosed that plans are underway to immortalise the late music legend, Prof. Victor Uwaifo.
According to Osaigbovo Iyoha, Chief of Staff (CoS) to Governor Godwin Obaseki, who spoke at a media briefing to announce a state burial for the late Uwaifo with family members of the deceased, when legends die, there was always something to immortalise them.
“The state government will inform members of the public of its plans for the funeral arrangements, which will commence on Thursday, October 14 with tributes, vigil mass and service of songs at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City,” he said.
He added that the lying in state would take place at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium on October 15 at 1:00p.m., to be followed by interment, adding: “There will be social activities and thanksgiving service at Garrick play ground, Ekenwan Road and Holy Cross Catholic Cathedral, Mission Road, Benin City on October 16 and 17.”
Iyoha said the state government was committed to giving Uwaifo a befitting burial, because Uwaifo was a music icon and someone, who put Nigeria on the world map.
Spokesman for the Uwaifo family, Chris Osaretin, commended the state government for the support, adding that Uwaifo’s works had become a yardstick for measuring standards of entertainment in the country.
