A serving soldier has allegedly shot dead a Customs officer and himself during a tussle over imported parboiled bag of rice at the Seme border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The incident was reported to have occurred on Wednesday night, when the yet-to-be-identified soldier insisted to carry a bag of rice he bought at one of the checkpoints of the Customs command along the Seme, Badagry expressway.
According to an eye witness, an argument ensued between the two over a bag of smuggled parboiled rice before the military man seized the Customs officer rifle and shot him at close range.
The witness also said the military officer after realising the magnitude of what he did also shot himself immediately.
He said, “There was an incident and has been brought under control. Investigation into the matter has commenced and the reason for the action will be unveiled.”
Abdulahi also said the officer was not one of those in the joint border drill of the Federal Government that comprised the Nigerian Army, Police, Immigration, and Customs Service.
