Most security operatives, including Police, Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), Central Business District (CBD) operatives and other security personnel were absent from Lagos roads as a result of the on-going EndSARS protests in the state.
Our correspondent who went round the State on Thursday reported that the security operatives are nowhere to be found in Lagos Island.
Also, the security men were not seen at Ijora-Olopa, Oyingbo market, Costain, Oju Elegba, Yaba, Ikorodu road, Oshodi and other parts of the State.
Authoritative source who spoke on anonymity revealed that the security authorities and the State Government secretly met on Wednesday and agreed to withdraw personnel from roads to avert clashes between them and the protesters who have turned it to violent and attacks.
“Security men were tactically withdrawn from major parts of Lagos roads and areas to prevent clashes between our men and the EndSARS protesters who used the opportunity to attack security men”, he revealed.
According to him, “Some of our men who will want to protect themselves may resolve to use firearms and this will escalate the already boiling atmosphere. Though, in some areas, you will see our men but they have been briefed on how to behave while on duty”.
Surprisingly, the traffic was free as motorists move about without any go-slow or traffic build up but the development may not be unconnected with the fear of people to stay away from possible attack by EndSARS protesters.
