NIGERIA : The Diocese of Esan Anglican Communion has held its Third Session of the Sixth Synod, with a charge on Anglicans to always depend on God for help.
The synod which had as its theme:  ” Benezer-Unto now the Lord has Helped Us”,  was held at the St. Andrew’s Cathedral Church, Eguare-Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria in compliance with the Covid-19 Safety Protocols.
The Archbishop Emeritus of Bendel Province, and outgoing Bishop of Esan Diocese, The Most Rev’d Friday Imaekhai said the theme was his way of expressing profound gratitude to God for all He enabled him to achieve in the diocese in particular and the Church of Nigeria in general.
Archbishop Imaekhai who is the first bishop of Esan diocese said with the help of the Lord, he was able to achieve both physical and spiritual feats, adding for instance that the diocese had no Bishop’s Court before his appointment, but now has a befitting one.
On what the church and the society in general could achieve from depending on God, he asserted that there was nothing the church or the society would not be able to achieve if they leaned on the Almighty.
“The theme is predicated on the fact that I am retiring. I have looked back and reflected very deeply and saw the hand of God in all that we had to do. This means that all we achieved were not our making but the making of God.
” Where there was failure, success later came, that had made us to lay a very solid foundation for the growth of the diocese. When we came , we did not meet Bishop’s Court on ground, we didn’t meet anything on ground “, he said.
The current Archbishop of Bendel Province, who was the synod preacher, The Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu while speaking on the theme, which was derived from 1 Samuel 7:12, admonished the congregants to depend on God to win any battle in life.
While assuring them of victory over the evil  through the help of God, he however urged them to repent from their sins and return to the Almighty in Holiness.
The Bishop-Elect of the Diocese of Esan, Ven. Gabriel Elabor, who is the vicar of the hosting church-St. Andrew’s Cathedral, stressed the relevance of the synod’s theme, and said that the Lord had been helpful to the diocese since its creation, even during its crisis period at inception.
He admonished Christians to always depend on God no matter the situation, assuring them that God would always show up at His own time to help them overcome.
” As the people of Israel recollected where they made mistakes, so also  I advised Christians to always check, reflect to know where they are not upright and adjust, so that the Holy Spirit will direct them, and at the end of the day victory will be sure”, he admonished.
