The President, Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria (APSON), Dr. Godly Opukeme, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for inaugurating the National Economic Sustainability Plan in Nigeria.
He described the inauguration as a right step in the right direction in the wake of the nation’s move to get its economy back on track.
Dr. Opukeme in a press statement made available to Journalists in Benin City, said that Nigerians must also commend the president for appointing Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to chair the committee.
According to him, as Private School Owners and Proprietors under Nigeria’s Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME’s), they see the Federal Government’s effort in providing stimulus packages for MSMEs in the form of Payroll Support as a genuine empathy of government towards alleviating the COVID-19 economic setbacks suffered by School Owners/MSMEs
He reiterated that as MSMEs, certain conditions ought to be fulfilled in line with their operating requirements to enable the Economic Sustainability Committee, (ESC) make appropriate recommendations for Schools eligibility to access the ESC Stimulus Support package.
The recommendations, he said would not only ensure Schools-MSME’s partner with the Government in revenue generation, but also give unhindered access, as well as transparency in the process for all genuinely affected Schools to benefit.
While commending the federal government stand on the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the country, he said that continued closure of the various schools and institutions in the country was not in the best interest of Nigerians at the moment.
