Residents of Isawo Community in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria were on thrown into mourning after a 23-year-old lady committed suicide over alleged abuse from her elder brother.
The lady, identified as Sherifat Suleiman was alleged to have committed suicide after efforts to ensure that her elder brother stops the molestation proved abortive in Ikorodu-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
After efforts to make sure her brother stops the abuse failed, the woman, described as gentle by neighbours, became fed up and consumed a substance that was believed to be a poisonous liquid.
An eyewitness narrated that Sherifah was discovered writhing in pains after taking the poisonous substances by residents and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
He added that the 23-year-old, who had visible marks of assaults on her right thigh, died few minutes before arriving at the hospital in the council.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana confirmed that though the matter has not been reported at the Police station in the area but the hospital where the deceased was rushed to confirmed it.
He assured that the Police division in the area will investigate the matter to determine whether there is any criminal offence on the incident.
